Dr. Yee-Ming Chan

Dr. Chan is a pediatric endocrinologist studying the causes and consequences of delayed puberty.

• Dr. Chan is using the neuropeptide kisspeptin, a potent stimulus for GnRH secretion, to assess GnRH neuronal function in adolescents with delayed puberty to determine if their pubertal delay will be self-limited or permanent, something that clinicians are currently unable to predict.

• Dr. Chan is also using techniques such as whole-exome sequencing in patients with abnormally late puberty to identify genes that regulate pubertal timing.

• These physiological and genetic studies are complemented by clinical research studies to understand the clinical consequences of delayed puberty.
